Schedule

Approximately 3.5 hours daily (hours can vary)

  • Morning hours range between: 6:00 AM - 8:15 AM
  • Afternoon hours range between: 2:30 PM – 5:00PM
Qualifications
  • Monitor must be able to assist with the loading of wheelchairs, the loading and unloading of children, and be able to assist special needs students.
  • Requires the ability to be able to lift students into seats and to go up and down bus steps on a regular basis.
Job Responsibilities
  • The monitor’s primary responsibility is to supervise the boarding and disembarkation of students and to maintain order on the vehicle as directed by the driver.
  • To assist in the loading and unloading of all students the monitor will:
    • Get off the bus to assist students loading and unloading.
    • Make visual contact with the person receiving the student.
    • Fasten seat restraints and wheel chair tie downs.
  • To enter the school buildings when necessary to help locate a student and/or conduct business in the school office/classroom.
  • Maintain a seating chart of the students on the bus.
  • Instruct the children to remain in their seats until the bus comes to a complete stop. Work with the driver to make sure all the children are seated before proceeding along the bus route.
  • As a cooperative effort with the driver handle disciplinary problems on the bus and/or at the bus stops avoiding the use of physical force as possible. Approved restraints may be used as authorized by the IEPC or Supervisor.
  • Check the bus after each run for lost/left articles.
  • To know how to operate the bus radio and the use of proper radio procedures.
  • Maintain the daily logbook on students; keeping a written record of student behavior on the bus and actions taken by staff.
  • To assist the driver with other duties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
