We are seeking a hands-on, cross-functional R&D Materials & Process Engineer focused in composite materials to join our Advanced Technology team, supporting new development projects. The role is ideal for an early career professional with a passion for material innovation and testing, rapid prototyping, and getting ideas into real-world hardware. You will work across materials and testing research, process and specification development and manufacturing development to accelerate new composite technologies.
You will collaborate with various internal functional groups and outside entities, such as research institutions and suppliers.
The R&D M&P Engineer should be self-driven, ready to learn, resourceful and highly collaborative. An ability to be organized and manage multiple tasks and projects within time constraints is required.

A pioneer in the production and assembly of complex aerostructures including aircraft and rocket components, engine nacelle systems, thrust reversers and advanced composite products, we apply the latest digital technologies and automation in composite design and manufacturing that are second to none. At ST Engineering MRAS, we are also rapidly augmenting our maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities leveraging the company's expanded aircraft nacelle portfolio as well as it's materials and processing expertise.
What YOU will do
- Manage stream of materials or parts for testing and analysis across internal and external sites and suppliers
- Evaluate new Materials screening and testing
- Where applicable, develop new process capability and specifications and roll out to internal team and/or customers
- Ensure new material and/or process compliance with internal specifications and industry standards
- Provide recommendations for material or process adjustments based on performance deviations and end-use requirements
- Support internal R&D projects and/or early-stage application of new materials with part fabrication and test development.
- Composite part development to support material use cases
- Strategy development of application for advanced material use cases
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Materials, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 0 - 7 years' experience in materials or a related engineering field
- Experience in material testing (physical, chemical and/or mechanical)
- Familiarity with composite fabrication techniques
- Desire to work hands-on in lab and pilot manufacturing environments
- This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization. A 'U.S. Person,' as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62, includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence (green card holders), and individuals granted asylum or refugee status in the United States. To be considered for this position, you must either be a U.S. Person or fall within a legally recognized export control exception or authorization.
If hired, you will be required to provide valid proof of such status.
- Background in prototyping, testing and/or other R&D Environments
- Familiarity with material testing equipment and tools (MATLAB or similar is a plus)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Hands-on mindset and eager to experiment
- Effective communicator across engineering, manufacturing and sourcing teams
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Creative, adaptable and proactive in finding solutions
Estimate salary range for this role: $64,400 to $95,800 per year. ST Engineering MRAS considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
