• Operate domestic water treatment systems, including chemical and physical processes.
• Perform any water facility process at Augusta Water as assigned.
• Conduct regular inspections of the facility, observe process control parameters via SCADA, instrumentation, and laboratory analyses, and anticipate and plan for flow changes and treatment adjustments.
• Respond to all alarms, failures, and process needs occurring at any water facility.
• Read meters and gauges, entering data into operational logs and computer spreadsheets.
• Observe chemical feed operations, replenish as needed, monitor and measure feed rates, and adjust to meet treatment needs and permit requirements.
• Disassemble pipes, clear clogged pumps, and change and clean strainer filters as needed.
• Calibrate pH and turbidity meters.
• Collect samples and perform scheduled analyses; submit required samples to the central laboratory, interpret results, and make treatment changes or conduct special tests per supervisor direction.
• Fill out required daily operational reports.
• Operate industrial equipment to haul chemicals and materials.
• Understand plant valving and piping systems and make flow pattern changes under supervision.
• Perform preventive and minor maintenance on equipment and assist maintenance personnel as assigned.
• Diagnose maintenance problems and take appropriate action.
• Communicate directly with maintenance personnel in the absence of senior supervisors.
• Clean vehicles, perform general housekeeping, and carry out building and grounds tasks as assigned.
• Participate in operational discussions to enhance knowledge of plants and processes.
• Communicate observations of plants, processes, and test results to supervision and licensed operators.
• Perform required safety checks.
• Assist in training new hires and trainees.
• Carry out duties in an environmentally friendly manner and in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
• Maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers and adhere to personnel and safety policies.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school or vocational school graduation.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License.
• Valid Class B Virginia Commercial Driver License with H and N endorsements and air brakes, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• A Virginia Waterworks Operator’s license (Class 4, 3, 2 or 1) is required.
• Availability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, on‑call, and any combination thereof.

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write routine reports and correspondence legibly.
• Speak effectively to members of the organization and conduct oneself professionally.
• Perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Compute rates, ratios, and interpret line graphs.
• Calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Solve practical problems and troubleshoot systems.
• Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
• Operate small office equipment and computers for data entry.
• Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
• Operate and repair small/light equipment (e.g., power tools) and medium equipment and machinery (e.g., vehicles, tanker, generator).
