Job Title

Special Education Teacher to teach Humanities (ELA/Social Studies) classes to students in grades 9-12. Classes for students with a range of neuro-behavioral and emotional disabilities.

Compensation is determined by candidate qualifications and tenure, in accordance with the READS Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience, typically ranging from $60,147.00 to $ yearly.

MA DESE License, Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, 5-12 is preferred. Other licenses such as English, 5-12, History/Social Science, 5-12, and other related fields making individuals eligible for an educator license waiver may be considered.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• A valid Massachusetts Special Education teaching license appropriate to the grade level and assignment or eligibility for a waiver.
• Strong knowledge and/or experience working with high school students with social-emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health-related needs.
• Effective classroom management and positive behavioral support skills.
• Strong knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core-aligned standards.
• Demonstrated ability to differentiate, modify, and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
• Strong understanding of the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students while maintaining appropriate structure, boundaries, and high expectations.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary Team.
• Commitment to providing equitable, student-centered, and strengths-based educational opportunities.
• Willingness to attend training from the Crisis Prevention Institute:
  Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required.
• Trained or willing to be trained in trauma-informed care, restorative practices, or other evidence-based behavioral approaches a plus.

The successful candidate must:

• Be physically capable of performing all essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands may include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, assisting with the physical management of students, and accompanying and supervising students on field trips and other off-site activities as required.
• Be able to safely implement approved physical intervention and restraint techniques, when necessary, with students up to age 22, in accordance with READS Collaborative policies, required training, and applicable state regulations.
