Mass General Brigham is a not‑for‑profit organization that supports patient care, research, teaching, and community service. The McLean Southeast (MSE) unit is a generalized inpatient psychiatric unit focused on treatment of depression and anxiety, among other psychiatric disorders.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the MHS provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and report house cleaning problems to Unit Secretary/ND.
  • Identify and report equipment problems to Unit Secretary/ND.
  • Participate in the unit's inventory system, reporting when supplies are low.
  • Initiate activities that assist patients in maintaining a clean environment.
  • Initiate activities that promote an organized, safe patient and staff environment.
  • Assist patients in their activities of daily living.
  • Identify patient hygiene needs; initiate and implement interventions to meet these needs.
  • Provide for patients' nutritional needs according to unit procedure.
  • Assist and reassure patients during tests, exams, and procedures.
  • Escort and supervise patients on and off ground, maintaining patient safety.
  • Maintain a commitment to professional growth and competency.
  • Complete mandatory in‑service requirements.
  • Identify areas of strengths and areas in need of professional development with supervisor.
  • Maintain competency for treating age‑specific patient populations.
  • Seek constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues.
  • Participate in critical incident de‑briefing.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred;
    Nursing Assistant (LNA – New Hampshire) preferred;
    New Hampshire Board of Nursing preferred.
  • Experience: Related experience 0‑1 year preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to work well collaboratively and independently.
    • Ability to operate within Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
    • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with patients, other members of the Health Care Team, facility personnel, and families/supportive others.
    • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Successful completion of CPI training is required within 30 days of hire.
