Job Description
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Nurse provides leadership and supervision to staff, creating a safe, positive, and supportive environment for all participants. The Camp Nurse carries out all duties related to their program in alignment with the mission of Old Colony YMCA and the regulating agency.
Responsibility- Assist in maintaining accurate medical and health records: staff and camper health forms, medical log books, daily restricted activity reports, medication administration forms, and incident reports.
- Assist with inventory of medical supplies and equipment, and develop and stock first aid kits.
- Meet or consult with the Camp Health Care Provider as needed.
- Provide staff orientation to health services at camp, covering standing orders, infirmary rules, emergency procedures, staff health assessments, accident prevention, universal precautions, and first aid.
- Collect, store, and administer medications to campers and staff; treat medical needs as they arise.
- Perform any additional tasks as required for camp operations.
- Adhere to all fiscal policies as outlined by the Association.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary nurse office and complete daily checklists.
- Attend overnights and participate in emergency drills.
- Assist with public relations events sponsored by Old Colony Y and provide courteous service to campers, parents, volunteers, and staff.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Current First Aid/CPR certifications.
- Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in Massachusetts required;
Registered Nurse licensure preferred. - Physical ability to lift or assist campers and staff and to reach remote locations quickly.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Evidence of a physical exam every two years.
- Immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
- Certification of good health from a physician.
