Position SummaryThe Maintenance Engineer (ME) is responsible for the general maintenance, operation, and upkeep of campground buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. The role involves working with a team to keep all aspects of the campground clean, safe, and in good working order. Duties include troubleshooting and repairing machinery, electrical systems, and other equipment; reading technical manuals, blueprints, and other documents; performing carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing work;
installing new fixtures, equipment, and appliances; conducting the preventative maintenance program; and handling guest requests and work orders.
- Perform carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and maintenance/repairs of campground buildings, facilities, equipment, vehicles, and grounds as directed by the engineering supervisor.
- Comply with all KOA, federal, state, and local safety programs and guidelines for operation and storage of equipment, tools, and chemicals.
- Maintain compliance with the preventative maintenance program through regular inspection of facilities, buildings, cabins, vehicles, and equipment.
- Inspect equipment to ensure proper functioning of heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, electrical systems, etc.
- Troubleshoot problems with equipment to determine cause and solutions for repair or replacement.
- Install new fixtures, equipment, and appliances as needed.
- Operate swimming pool and aquatic water features safely, maintaining proper pool chemistry while handling pool chemicals.
- Approach guests with an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service‑oriented manner.
- Prioritize tasks by importance and urgency through planning and decision making.
- Remain calm and objective in high‑pressure, fast‑paced situations.
- Follow the quality assurance manual to maintain property.
- Foster a work environment that maximizes employee involvement, morale, and supports KOA’s culture, mission, values, and goals.
- Campground buildings, facilities, and grounds are well maintained and fully operational.
- Projects are completed safely, properly, and in a timely manner.
- Safe work practices are employed to create a secure environment for staff and guests.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing equipment and installation.
- Basic knowledge of chemical properties, handling, and usage.
- Basic knowledge of propane and gasoline dispensing.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; lift and carry 25 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds regularly.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing ≤10 pounds without assistance.
- Operate various loud and vibrating maintenance tools and equipment.
- Stand for long periods of time.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and move safely over uneven terrain.
- Work inside and outdoors in various climates.
