St. Bartholomew parish, one that is oriented towards reverence, transcendence, and beauty, is seeking a skilled and devoted full‑time Director of Sacred Music to lead our liturgical music program. Reporting to the Pastor, the Director of Sacred Music will cultivate a worship experience that draws parishioners into the beauty and mystery of Christ through the Church’s rich musical heritage. This role demands a collaborative leader with exceptional musical talent and a passion for fostering reverence in liturgy.
Key Responsibilities- Liturgical Music Leadership:
Select and direct music for weekend Masses, school liturgies, funerals, weddings, and other sacramental celebrations, prioritizing sacred music within the Church’s tradition to enhance reverence. - Collaboration:
Work with families, couples, and school staff to plan liturgies that reflect the parish’s orientation towards reverence, ensuring music deepens the spiritual experience. The Director of Sacred Music is also expected to plug into and engage the wider parish through relational ministry and presence. - Choir and Ensemble Development:
Recruit, train, and direct parish choirs (adult, youth, school, and/or children’s) and collaborate with instrumentalists to build a vibrant music ministry that upholds liturgical excellence. - Musical Performance:
Provide expert accompaniment on organ and piano, delivering technically proficient and spiritually sensitive performances for all liturgies. - Traditional Expertise:
Promote the Church’s musical tradition, educating and inspiring a modern congregation to encounter Christ’s beauty through sacred music. - Administration:
Manage music budgets, maintain instruments, schedule rehearsals, and ensure compliance with copyright regulations, as well as coordinating required maintenance and repairs.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Sacred Music, Liturgical Music, or related field (Master’s preferred). - Musical Skill:
Exceptional proficiency in organ, piano, and vocal talents, with experience in traditional liturgical repertoire, as well as fluency and capacity for contemporary liturgical music. - Liturgical Knowledge:
Expertise in Catholic sacred music, including chant (proper antiphons), sequences, traditions, with the ability to communicate its theological depth to today’s faithful. - Leadership:
Proven ability to inspire and lead choirs and instrumentalists, fostering a reverent and beautiful music ministry. - Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills to engage parishioners, families, and school staff, conveying the faith’s beauty through music. - Faith:
Practicing Catholic committed to the Church’s mission and the pastor’s vision.
Full‑time, including weekends, some weeknight evenings, and occasional holidays, with flexibility for funerals, weddings, and special liturgies.
CompensationRange: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00
