Position Overview
The Department of Studio Art invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in Painting beginning fall 2027. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $91,462 - $103,138 per year.
Teaching & Service ResponsibilitiesApplicants will teach two courses in painting and/or drawing in the fall, spring, and every other winter, guide senior thesis work in painting, and regularly contribute to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings. All faculty are also expected to contribute to service to the College, including, but not limited to, committee membership and serving as Director or Chair of a Program or Department when asked.
QualificationsApplicants must be able to teach traditional painting processes across a variety of media, have a notable exhibition record and an active studio practice amenable to student participation, and engage with contemporary dialogue within the field. The candidate must also participate in a vigorous, cross‑disciplinary studio program within a liberal arts environment and demonstrate the ability to engage students across the College’s curriculum, broadening the student’s and institution’s dialogue with contemporary art and culture.
In addition, the candidate will collaborate with fellow Studio Art faculty to develop visiting lecture and workshop programming.
