Job SummaryWestover School seeks a Science Teacher who is passionate about scientific inquiry, curiosity-driven learning, and collaborative teaching practice. This teacher will be responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging, student-centered instruction while fostering a classroom and laboratory environment grounded in curiosity, inclusion, and high expectations.
This educator cultivates scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of scientific concepts while supporting students’ intellectual growth, confidence, and readiness for college-level study. The teacher participates fully in the life of the school community through teaching, advising, residential life participation, and collaboration with colleagues.
Responsibilities and Duties Teaching and Learning- Teach a full course load or equivalent thereof, which may include Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology or other science courses as assigned, depending on program needs
- Foster scientific curiosity, inquiry-based learning, and evidence-based reasoning
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with departmental curriculum
- Design and facilitate laboratory experiences that promote hands-on learning and responsible, safe lab practices
- Create a classroom environment that supports belonging, respect, student engagement, and academic risk-taking
- Assess student learning regularly and provide timely, meaningful feedback
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date grading and course materials
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and learning styles
- Serve as an Advisor to a small group of students, providing academic and personal support
- Communicate regularly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and expectations
- Support students beyond the classroom through meetings, extra help sessions, and informal connection
- Support the residential life program including evening and weekend responsibilities during the academic year
- Participate in school events, traditions, and community activities
- Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines on curriculum development, alignment, and instructional improvement
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and required school functions
- Uphold school policies, community standards, and professional expectations
- Contribute positively to a respectful, inclusive, and collegial faculty culture
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field required; degree or significant coursework in a scientific discipline preferred; advanced degree a plus
- Comfort in a laboratory setting and commitment to responsible lab practices required
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Passion for science education, commitment to student development, and enthusiasm for ongoing collaboration with colleagues
Work is performed in classrooms, laboratories, and throughout campus. Teachers are expected to maintain a visible presence in the school community and to participate in occasional evening or weekend events.
