Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care under supervision to primary and specialty care patients in a private medical office setting.

Duties And Responsibilities Patient Care
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments, and provide clear explanations of procedures.
  • Obtain patients’ histories, take vital signs, and perform EKGs as needed.
  • Administer injections, medications, and treatments as required.
  • Perform blood draws, complete lab slips, and handle cultures and other specimen collections.
  • Update electronic medical records promptly and accurately to ensure proper documentation.
  • Triage calls, respond to phone messages, and complete follow-ups when appropriate, or forward to the physician for additional advice; schedule patient appointments as necessary.
  • Implement physician orders and notify patients of results as directed.
  • Assist the doctor with various procedures and ensure a smooth process for both patient and provider.
  • Complete drug prior authorizations as required to ensure timely access to prescribed medications.
  • Renew medication refills as directed to support continuity of patient care.
Office Operations and Maintenance
  • Maintain cleanliness and preparation of examination and procedure rooms.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment, including sterilization of instruments.
  • Serve as the office liaison between staff and providers, addressing requests and escalating unresolved issues to the Practice Manager.
  • Oversee daily office operations, ensuring staff adherence to office policies, healthcare regulations, medical laws, and ethics.
  • Provide coverage for LPNs or Medical Assistants as necessary to maintain efficient office workflow.
  • Train all new LPN and Medical Assistant staff and ensure consistent onboarding processes.
  • Assist the Practice Manager with implementing new policies and initiatives, such as Press Ganey and template updates, while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Monitor overall workflow and assess the need for overtime based on staff requirements, communicating adjustments to the Practice Manager.
Professional Development and Quality Improvement
  • Stay current on electronic health record policies and procedures.
  • Support and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attend required meetings and actively participate in committees and professional development activities.
  • Ensure accountability for professional competency, demonstrating critical thinking and knowledge to deliver optimal patient care.
Provider and Staff Support
  • Act as the primary contact for providers on‑site, addressing concerns and communicating requests to the Practice Manager when necessary.
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding new staff, ensuring they are adequately prepared for their roles.
  • Aid in developing and revising patient care plans under the direction of an MD or APRN.
  • Perform patient‑related activities such as medication administration, diagnostic testing, therapeutic treatments, medication renewals, and prior authorizations.
Other Duties
  • Document nursing interventions and patient responses to care accurately and communicate this information to the appropriate healthcare team members.
  • Conduct follow‑up tasks, including post‑operative calls, and handle triage phone calls efficiently.
  • Perform additional automated functions and other duties as assigned to support the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with individuals of all levels and establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, patients and the public.
