Scope Of Position
The practice of nursing by a Licensed Practical Nurse is defined as the performing of selected tasks and sharing of responsibility under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities- Under the direction of an RN, perform selected tasks and activities to obtain and report information to assist the RN in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient needs.
- Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner, including observation of patient status changes, signs and symptoms that deviate from normal health status, and participation in the development and delegation of patient care plans.
- Provides an environment conducive to safety and health.
- Documents and communicates nursing interventions and responses to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
- Performs patient‑related activities, medication administration, diagnostic testing, and therapeutic treatments under the direction of the RN to contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care.
- Participates in quality initiatives, maintains accountability for professional competency, and demonstrates knowledge and critical thinking to promote optimal patient care.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- State of CT LPN License
- Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- CPR certified.
- CPI certified.
- Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English.
- Ability to work well and collaboratively with other members of the health care team.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
- Ability to work in a time‑oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements, e.g., blood‑borne pathogens, physical requirements such as lifting and pulling of patients, pushing of stretchers, standing, and walking.
- May be exposed to environmental hazards such as anesthetic gases or elements.
- Ability to meet the care needs of the patient populations served.
