Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Middlebury College, MIDDLEBURY, VT

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applicants for a full‑time, tenure‑track position in Mathematics beginning fall 2026. A Ph.D. in Mathematics should normally be in hand by time of appointment.

The department seeks candidates who will contribute to teaching the core major requirements in analysis and algebra and offer electives in areas such as complex analysis, representation theory, number theory, or logic that augment our curriculum. The successful candidate will advise, mentor, and teach courses at all levels of the curriculum, from the introductory calculus sequence to senior‑level offerings. Candidates who demonstrate a capacity to involve undergraduates in their research program are especially encouraged to apply.

As part of a full teaching load, the candidate will also regularly contribute to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings, as described in our teaching load guidelines.

Service

All faculty are expected to contribute to service to the College, including, but not limited to, committee membership and serving as Director or Chair of a Program or Department when asked.

Benefits and Salary

This is a full‑time, benefits‑eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $88,963 – $100,129 per year.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, or equivalent, with a record of excellence in teaching and research.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high‑quality instruction in analytic and algebraic courses.
  • Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Experience or potential to engage undergraduates in research.
