Assistant Professor of Studio Art – Painting

The Department of Studio Art invites applicants for a full‑time tenure‑track position in Painting beginning fall 2027. Applicants must be able to teach traditional painting processes across a variety of media, have a notable exhibition record and an active studio practice that encourages student participation, and engage with contemporary dialogue within the field.
The candidate will participate in a vigorous, cross‑disciplinary studio program within a liberal arts environment and demonstrate the ability to engage students across the College’s curriculum, broadening the student’s and institution’s dialogue with contemporary art and culture.
Teaching responsibilities include: two courses in painting and/or drawing in the fall, spring, and every other winter; guidance of senior thesis work in painting; collaboration with Studio Art faculty to develop visiting lecture and workshop programming; and regular contributions to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings.
All faculty are also expected to contribute to service to the College, including committee membership and, when asked, serving as director or chair of a program or department.
This is a full‑time, benefits‑eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $91,462 – $103,138 per year.
