* JOB DESCRIPTION:
** The Laboratory Assistant performs four essential roles in the function of the Laboratory:1) Lab Customer Service2) Phlebotomist3) Lab Order Entry including handling of patient information and test results.
4) Specimen Processing and Shipment of samples to Reference Labs
* Provides Exceptional Customer Service to all stakeholders in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of the Laboratory and UVMHN
* Obtains specimens for testing according to policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
* Performs administrative duties to meet the needs of the Laboratory Department and the customers served by the laboratory
* Processes specimens prior to testing, ensuring quality and adhering to established policies and procedures
* Works collaboratively with coworkers, Technologists and other staff within department and in other departments throughout the Organization
* Uses a variety of communication skills to meet the needs of the laboratory department and the customers served by the laboratory
* Participates in continuing education and departmental development functions to support professional growth and departmental initiatives

* EDUCATION:
** Able to read, write and speak the English language
High School Diploma or equivalent
*
* EXPERIENCE:
*** Phlebotomy Certification from a nationally recognized agency is highly recommended
* Phlebotomy Experience is a plus
* Computer entry or word processing skills required
* Working knowledge of medical terminology desirable
* Good interpersonal communication skills required
* Approximately six months to a year is required to learn the job for satisfactory performance. The Laboratory Director will evaluate this.
