Job Summary
Direct and supervise all hospital service functions and activities during evening, night, weekend hours throughout the hospital. The Administrative Supervisor assumes delegated authority for all operational issues in the absence of Department Manager throughout the organization.
Job Responsibilities- Hold staff at all levels accountable for decisions and responsibility for quality patient care and hospital operations on the respective shift.
- Provide clinical and administrative leadership on the respective shift.
- Provide for continuity and supervision through appropriate delegation.
- Evaluate staff members on a regular basis, based on established standards and provide feedback to Managers regarding staff competency.
- Determine learning needs of staff and collaborate with Managers in coordination with the Staff Development Coordinator to plan appropriate action - Provide appropriate follow-up to staff regarding quality care.
- Administer and enforce personnel policies and practices equitably.
- Provide for proper utilization of personnel based on assessed needs of the patient population and competencies and abilities of staff.
- Promote cost containment through appropriate use of physical and material resources.
- Act as a liaison to Hospital administration.
- Communicate with the Vice President of Patient Care Services re: identified needs, problems, and follow-up.
- In the absence of Administration, communicate with media when indicated, following established guidelines.
- Be responsible for communicating significant events to Administration (President, Vice President of Patient Care Services).
- Interact/communicate with all departments as appropriate.
- Provide counseling and disciplining of staff as required and follow through with Managers.
- Participate as an active member of the Nursing Management Committee and other committees as appropriate.
- Investigate patient/visitor/employee incidents.
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Current unrestricted license as an RN in the State of Vermont.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or related field desirable.
- Demonstrate knowledge and clinical competence in clinical areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrate ability to provide leadership.
- Active participation in continuing education and committee process.
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Three years of nursing experience required. One year of experience at UVMHN/Porter Medical Center preferred.
