Job Description

The energy industry is advancing with investment in smart technology innovation and Northern Powergrid, as the company responsible for powering everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is at the forefront of delivering a power network that meets the region’s needs now and in the future.

We are looking to attract individuals that love working outdoors, enjoy being part of a team and who are passionate about providing a high standard of customer service.

A Craft Mate is a critical role and an integral part of the teams responsible for keeping the lights on:

  • A jointing team is made up of a Jointer and a Craft Mate; the jointer undertakes live working whilst the Craft Mate acts as a safety attendant ensuring the safety of self and others at all times.
  • Jointing teams primarily carry out Electricity Network faults and repairs but can also be engaged on customer connections and asset replacement activities. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role. The use of an excavator, and a NRASWA qualification are desirable but not essential.
  • You will respond quickly to Network faults and be able to record accurate fault information from the field using IT technology and systems. You will be expected to work either day shift working along with participation on a standby rota or as part of a three-shift pattern ensuring that we are there when our customers need us, and that the number of customers who experience long running power cuts is kept to a minimum.

Along with a competitive salary between £25,933 and £35,339 plus 27% for shift workers we also offer great benefits such as:

  • Full training provided over the initial c. 6 weeks
  • Enrolment into our pension scheme
  • 25 days holiday (increasing with tenure) plus bank holidays
  • Guaranteed overtime payment of between £4,152 - £5,777 per annum

So, if you are highly motivated, well organised, love being outdoors and enjoy a challenge, apply now and see if you have what it takes to join Northern Powergrid and energise your future career.
