Job DescriptionThe Instructional Assistant assists the teacher and special education staff in delivering instructional and behavioral services to primary‑age students with disabilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. The role supports the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and everyday classroom activities, while also collecting data and providing feedback to the education team.
Qualifications- Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Communication Disorders, Education, or a related field. - Experience working with primary age children who have developmental or behavioral disabilities.
- Practical knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis, social‑skills curricula, and other evidence‑based interventions.
- Current and active training or certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention Strategies.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Assist teachers in the smooth operation of the classroom.
- Implement IEP objectives and related instructional strategies.
- Follow a daily schedule independently.
- Collect, record, and analyze student performance data.
- Apply behavior‑intervention plans and social‑skills techniques consistently across school settings.
- Support students in accessing the regular‑education curriculum (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) as outlined in their IEPs.
- Facilitate student engagement in learning centers, lessons, and activities under teacher direction.
- Execute instructional programs related to IEP goals.
- Accurately collect and record data in primary settings.
- Participate in consultation meetings regarding student behavior and academic needs.
- Provide feedback to teachers and the special‑education team on student progress and strategy effectiveness.
- Assist with daily classroom and ADL activities for special‑education students.
- Assist special‑education students across all academic areas as detailed in individual IEPs.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Principal, Pre‑School Coordinator, or Special Education Coordinator.
- Ability to follow a daily schedule independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Capability to restrain children weighing up to 80 pounds if necessary.
- Require frequent shifting between sitting, standing, and kneeling, and able to sit on the floor or in child‑sized chairs for extended periods.
- Must reach overhead and lift or move children on play equipment.
- Ability to multitask in a busy classroom and supervise multiple learning centers concurrently.
- Participate in PE classes and recess as needed.
