.

The CNC Mill Setup Machinist is responsible for setting up, proving out, and supporting production on 3-5 axis CNC milling machines in a fast-paced, high mix manufacturing environment that supports the Aerospace and Defense industry for highly complex, precision machined components. This is a key role within the organization and will work collaboratively across other machinists, quality inspectors, CNC programmers, engineering and leadership in their daily activities.

The successful candidate will be able to independently set up CNC equipment to produce precision machined components that meet and exceed all blueprint requirements. This position requires strong technical expertise in CNC machining principles encompassing fixture and work holding selection, cutting tool types and proper selection, CNC machine setup, process/quality troubleshooting, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Requirements
  • Setup and operate 3-5 axis CNC milling machines for a variety of complex and diverse machining operations.
  • Interpret CNC setup sheets, blueprints, GD&T, routing sheets, and work instructions to ensure accurate part setup and production.
  • Select, assemble, load, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and machine offsets to achieve component quality conformance.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and verify dimensional accuracy using appropriate mechanical and optical inspection equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the CNC programming team to develop, launch, and improve both new and existing CNC processes and operations.
  • Monitor, diagnose and adjust CNC processes for tool wear, quality conformance, process stability, or cycle time reduction initiatives as needed.
  • Ensure all necessary hand tools and measurement equipment are available and organized at the machine for operators to successfully manufacture parts on machine setups once released to production.
  • Train and mentor other members of the CNC machining department on best practices, machine loading, part inspection, blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Maintain and complete required production and quality documentation, including in-process inspection sheets, clocking in and out of operations steps on the job travelers, and daily 5S / PM check sheets.
  • Communicate setup, tooling, and process issues to the Department Supervisor, CNC programmers or Engineering teams.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Participate in and support all company standards for 5S cleanliness and organization within department.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to select, install, and precisely align work holding in various types of CNC milling equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T per ASME Y14.5 2019
  • Ability to read and understand EIA G-code programming language.
  • Ability to hold tolerances down to ±0.0005”
  • Strong understanding of tooling selection, tool wear, and appropriate feeds and speeds as based on material and work holding parameters.
  • Ability to use mechanical and optical measurement
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and other types of information clearly and concisely to other members of the organization.
Experience & Education
  • High School Diploma or GED certification required
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a CNC machining environment required
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on CNC setup experience on 3-5 axis milling machines with Fanuc and / or Hurco CNC controls required
  • Prior experience with Hurco CNC controls highly desired
  • Certification of completion of related technical courses (Blueprint reading, CNC Programming, Lean Manufacturing) preferred.
