BROAD FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Services and Special Education (hereafter Director) and in harmony with the policies of the Board of Education, and Federal, State and Local Laws and Regulations, the Supervisor of Pupil Services and Special Education(hereafter Supervisor) implements state/federal statutes and regulations pertaining to IDEIA (Individuals With Disabilities Education Improvement Act) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act*, for special education and related services, FERPA (Federal Education Rights & Privacy Act), provides professional development and consultation to special education and pupil services staff that relate to the department's responsibilities under these statutes/regulations.

The supervisor also performs related assigned duties as assigned by the Director.

REPORTS TO:

Director of Pupil Services and Special Education

SUPERVISES:
Selected special education and pupil service staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Connecticut certification in Social Work (071), Special Education (065, 165), Educational Leadership (092), School Psychologist (070), and Speech and Language Pathology (061)

* Hold and maintain a current and valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operators License

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:

* Excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people. Demonstrates interpersonal skills and is able to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

* Ability to work in a supervisory capacity with members of the special education and pupil personnel staff.

* Demonstrate a proven skillset in working collaboratively with colleagues, community members and families.

* Knowledgeable regarding the IDEIA, Section 504, current best practice related to the provision of special education and related services

* Proficient in creating and presenting on a variety of legal, budgetary and current topics to various stakeholder groups.
