Position Summary

Tutors assist with a variety of content areas (reading, writing, math, etc). Tutors work under the direct supervision of the coordinator at Legacy Academy. Tutors lead small‑group instructional practice and reinforcement of taught concepts. Tutors may also be assigned to provide non‑instructional support to students during arrival, breakfast, lunch, recess, and/or dismissal.

Responsibilities, Duties, and Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with certified staff to deliver tier 1, 2, and 3 intervention instructional support.
  • Routinely meets with students, providing practice and skill work connected to their academic growth goals.
  • Records and maintains students’ progress‑monitoring documentation.
  • Works closely with other program teachers, social workers, BCBAs, RBTs, and school administrators.
  • Assists with the administration of both formative and summative assessments to students.
  • Provides instruction to meet the individual needs of the student and/or works cooperatively within the classroom, executing support as directed by the online instruction.
  • Implements the instructional program using techniques designed to meet the learning needs of students.
  • Teaches learning strategies and provides positive feedback to students regarding their progress.
  • Works with individual or small groups of students in the general education classroom or in the resource room setting.
  • Shares effective instructional strategies and materials with classroom teachers.
  • Communicates student progress to the classroom teacher, interventionist, coach or lead teacher.
  • Confers with students and staff regarding instruction, assessment data, behavior patterns, and individual student needs.
  • Assists certified staff with maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by a certified staff member.
Academic Tutor Must Be Able To
  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods of time to provide guided support and move about the building.
  • Maintain professional communications with students and colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working in a school setting.
Salary & Compensation
  • $31.93 / hour;
    No Benefits.
Schedule

7:00am‑2:31pm

Physical and Mental Demands / Work Environment
  • Must be mobile with the ability to get from one location in the office or work site(s) to other locations in the office or work site(s).
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift or carry objects less than thirty (30) pounds.
  • Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing and typing.
  • Ability to see and read objects closely, as wiring, labels on equipment, reading/proofreading a report, using a computer monitor, filing and/or retrieving information from a filing system and verifying the accuracy of financial information.
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise, as in using a telephone or radio, distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech, including using a radio.
  • Ability to learn and acquire an understanding of new information, methodologies and techniques and how they apply to school goals and operations.
  • Memory adequate to perform tasks/assignments given over long periods of time.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task for more than 60 minutes.
