Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Chemistry Department at Wesleyan University invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track Professor of Chemistry position in any of the areas encompassed by experimental physical, computational physical, or inorganic chemistry, with an expected start date of July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program involving both graduate and undergraduate researchers. Candidates should also demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Special consideration will be given to candidates capable of teaching courses in both introductory and advanced topics of physical chemistry or inorganic chemistry for both undergraduate and graduate student populations. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Candidates who have demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and whose research could contribute to Wesleyan’s interdisciplinary programs (including, but not limited to, the College of the Environment, the College of Integrative Sciences, and the College of Design and Engineering Studies) are especially encouraged to apply.

Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching, has an engaged and diverse student body, and offers competitive salaries, start-up funds, and benefits, as well as a generous sabbatical program.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field at the time of application.

Complete applications must include a curriculum vitae, a description of research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the email addresses of three referees who will be contacted for confidential letters of recommendation. In the cover letter, applicants are invited to describe how they will support the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community. Additional materials for consideration, including teaching evaluations, may also be submitted.

Applications received by September 15, 2026, will receive full consideration.
