Description:

Youth Development Counselor

Reports to:

School Principal, Site Coordinator, Chief Academic Officer, and Executive Director of Finance

Broad Function:

The Youth Development Counselor, reporting to the Site Coordinator and School Principal, will facilitate and support academic, social emotional learning, enrichment and recreational activities in the after school program.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plan and facilitate academic enrichment and recreational activities that promote personalized student learning and positive youth development;
  • Record attendance and
  • Document and serve snack in accordance with state and federal After School Snack Program regulations;
  • Provide support to students during programming;
  • Supervise students during all aspects of the program, including weekly visits with guest vendors and community providers;
  • Promote positive behavior during all activities and transitions;
  • Manage behavior issues/concerns in accordance with established behavior policies;
  • Work to develop restorative relationships with students that growth mindset and resilience;
  • Participate in staff meetings and Professional Development offered by MPS, and program partners and vendor resources;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or School Principal.
Qualifications and

Experience:
  • Ability to motivate and engage students in learning activities;
  • Demonstrated Classroom Management and Teambuilding skills
  • Experience with Project Based Learning and STEAM, preferred;
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff);
  • First Aid/CPR Certification Preferred.
Schedule & Salary:

After School programs start September 28, 2026 with program start up required. Hours and schedule vary by school site, approximately 10 hours per week; M-Th, 3:25-5:45 pm. The position is grant-funded. Additional paid hours for staff meetings and/or prep & planning may be required. The After School program follows the school calendar and does not operate on vacation days, half days or early dismissals.

Flexible, part-time positions- job-sharing and modified schedules available. Current hourly rate for certified staff is $31.93, based on MPS contracts;
Non-MFT: $16.94-$28.69 per hour, based on certifications, experience and responsibilities.
