What You Will DoPratt & Whitney’s Compression Systems Module Center (CSMC) is seeking an experienced manufacturing engineer to lead projects for New Product Introductions and have responsibility for manufacture of experimental engine hardware. This position offers the opportunity to work on some of the newest products and manufacturing technologies being designed and developed at Pratt & Whitney.
Candidate selected will be responsible for planning and development of manufacturing processes for new experimental engine hardware and progression of first parts through manufacturing and delivery. Some projects will require transitioning these new parts into full production capability. Work with new product design engineers during conceptual design phase through detail design and ultimately initial hardware manufacture. NPI ME will utilize MRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level) methods to ensure product design meets cost and producibility goals while still meeting engine program technical requirements.
Support of experimental hardware manufacture will be both within P&W and at selected development suppliers.
- Review of new product design to ensure production capability
- Creation of master planning summary
- Planning, design and tryout of new tooling
- Creation of work instructions/operation sheets
- Development of new process technologies
- First piece tryout
- Delivery of development parts to meet program schedules.
- Achieving required Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL)
- A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
- Experience with machining processes (Milling, turning, grinding)
- Processing aerospace materials including nickel and titanium alloys
- Process planning and development.
- Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities and work in high‑pressure environment
- Ability to work with others in a professional manner to achieve required goals.
- Manage multiple requirements in parallel
- New product introductions
- Rotating hardware
- IBRs/Blisks,
- Fan/compressor rotors and airfoils
- Turbine Disks,
- New capital equipment projects
- Continuous improvement projects
- MRL (manufacturing readiness levels)
- MRL tools such as PFMEA, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flow Diagrams, Control plans, and Measurement System Analysis
- Project leadership.
- Six Sigma and statistical process control methods
- Use of UG/NX and similar CAD software
