Job Overview
The F135 Fan design team seeks an experienced Design Engineering professional who works independently to design, validate, and support components for the fan module of Pratt & Whitney’s F135 engine.
Responsibilities- Provide design support across all phases of the design cycle—including preliminary, detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service—for any component within the fan module (cases, frames, IBRs, bypass ducts, kinematics, etc.).
- Support the existing F135 fleet through enhanced commonality and optimization of components to meet current and future business and customer needs.
- Expand repairability and maintainability for military customers and MRO facilities, and collaborate with quality clinics and related departments to support test and verification of field issues.
- Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality; develop data, layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.
- Design and review component layouts, calculate stack‑ups, perform major cost studies, and produce supporting documentation to facilitate operations and ensure objectives and budgets are achieved.
- Resolve complex design problems and review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Communicate with other engineering personnel to coordinate interrelated design and ensure project completion; provide technical leadership on IPTs and, when required, assist in training less experienced engineers.
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of mechanical design experience, or an advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Experience with hardware, reading blueprints, and manufacturing methods.
- Experience with engineering standard work and the Class I and/or II EC process.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with fault‑tree investigation tools.
- Proficiency in FEA and/or classical methods of analysis.
- Proficiency in Teamcenter and NX.
- Existing U.S. Government Security Clearance.
- Relocation eligibility.
- Salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
