About the Role
Position:
Composites Engineer – Commercial Composites Team, Compression Systems Engineering (CSE).
Location:
140 ~ Aircraft Rd ~ BLDG
140, Middletown, CT.
Employment Type:
Onsite. Citizenship: U.S. citizen required. Travel: ~10%.
- Participate on an Integrated Product Team (IPT) collaborating across disciplines to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost, and weight.
- Provide structural analysis support throughout conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases, including validation, certification, manufacturing, and operational service.
- Execute a gated structures process leading to part validation via sub‑element, component, rig, and engine testing.
- Perform finite element analysis of homogeneous solid, layered shell, and layered solid (ply‑by‑ply) models to ensure compliance with engine hardware requirements and structural testing correlation/validation.
- Assist in manufacturing process development at suppliers, ensuring manufacturability of component designs, documenting and presenting results to management and external customers.
- Mentor and coach developing engineers on the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience in Defense/Aerospace or related industries, OR Advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Active U.S. citizenship and compliance with program/contract access restrictions.
- Strong knowledge of structural analysis, non‑linear static and dynamic analysis, and life/damage tolerance analysis, including user material subroutines.
- Experience with composite design and analysis technology.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis tools (ANSYS MAPDL, Workbench, ACP, NASTRAN, Abaqus, LS‑DYNA, Hypermesh).
- Knowledge of non‑destructive testing methods for composites.
- Hands‑on composites manufacturing experience using hand lay‑up/autoclave, compression molding, or RTM techniques.
- Familiarity with advanced textile design and manufacturing.
- Excellent communication skills with customers, co‑workers, suppliers, and management across disciplines.
- Strong engineering problem‑solving ability that drives organizational transformation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Advanced degree in Engineering.
- Active US Security Clearance.
- Salary range: 107,500 USD – 204,500 USD.
