What You’ll Be Doing

As a valuable part of our
Transportation team
, a
Project Engineer will support a variety of projects and gain hands‑on experience with responsibilities such as:

  • Lead and assist in the design and development of roadway/highway projects, including horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection and interchange design, and ADA compliance
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with Connecticut DOT and local agency standards
  • Perform geometric design, grading, drainage, pavement design, and traffic control planning
  • Preparing and reviewing traffic analyses, traffic simulation models, safety studies, signal timing evaluations, and transportation planning reports
  • Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams including traffic, structural, environmental, subconsultants and survey professionals
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables; ensure compliance with contract requirements and regulatory standards
  • Communicate with clients, stakeholders, and public agencies to provide project updates and resolve technical challenges
  • Mentor junior staff and support business development through proposal preparation and client meetings

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in roadway and highway design
  • Strong knowledge of transportation engineering principles, traffic operations, traffic signal systems, and roadway safety analysis
  • Experience preparing traffic impact studies, safety assessments, and transportation planning reports
  • Familiarity with MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), and applicable state and local design standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working with CTDOT and Connecticut transportation agencies
  • Experience with Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, SIDRA, or other traffic analysis and simulation software
  • Experience with Open Roads (with CT DOT DDE) and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and environmental documentation
  • Experience mentoring and leading technical staff
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification and/or Roadway Safety Professional certification
  • Membership and/or leadership experience within industry organizations (ITE, ASCE, WTS, ITS)
