Process Manufacturing Engineer – Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in designing, manufacturing, and servicing aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems. We are seeking a Process Manufacturing Engineer to drive continuous improvement and quality in our Compression Systems Manufacturing Center in Middletown, Connecticut.
What you will do- Provide direct troubleshooting support to the manufacturing shop floor and drive improvement across selected manufacturing processes (e.g., conventional machining and special manufacturing).
- Identify and implement process optimization and control methods to eliminate quality turn backs/escapes and reduce overall product costs.
- Collaborate with product designers, tool designers, quality assurance, systems designers, and other stakeholders to improve first‑pass yield.
- Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions on non‑conforming products, using statistical analysis tools and other methods.
- Drive targeted manufacturing process optimization using MRL tools such as Process Control Plans and PFMEA.
- Document problem statements, observations, conclusions, calculations, and recommendations with discipline and follow‑through.
- Support the project pipeline process: select, prioritize, and scope projects aligned with business objectives and CORE initiatives.
- Schedule and facilitate periodic project reviews, ensuring validation and progress through effective scorecards and metrics.
- Lead projects that improve manufacturing process capability and quality performance through the assigned processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5+ years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing operations, quality, shop floor, or similar environment; or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience in a similar environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities in a constantly fluctuating work environment.
- Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints.
- Experience in a manufacturing shop environment.
- Six Sigma project leadership, management, or coaching experience.
- Experience with project management tools such as MS Project.
- Previous experience with PW software tools like Solumina and SAP.
- Experience using UG/NX and Team Center software suites.
- Experience with Minitab and other statistical software for analysis.
- Experience working on rotating gas turbine parts.
- Experience in conventional manufacturing processes.
- Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
