We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer for Pratt & Whitney’s F135 Fan Design Team. The role focuses on end‑to‑end design of fan components, providing support across the whole lifecycle from preliminary concept to manufacturing and operational service.
What You Will Do- Support design across all phases of the design cycle, including preliminary, detailed, validation, manufacturing, and service.
- Design components within the fan module such as cases, frames, IBRs, bypass ducts, and kinematics.
- Enhance the existing F135 fleet through commonality, optimization, and repairability/maintainability improvements for military and MRO customers.
- Develop and implement common procedures and standard work to optimize efficiency and quality.
- Create layouts, sketches, and design documentation to present proposals to stakeholders.
- Conduct cost studies and perform detailed analysis of new or existing parts to meet budget constraints.
- Resolve complex design problems, review drawings for clarity, completeness, standard compliance, and accurate dimensioning.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary engineering teams to ensure project completion and provide technical leadership on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- Assist in training less‑experienced engineers to diagnose and solve problems.
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience, OR advanced degree with 3+ years of experience.
- Proficient in hardware design, reading blueprints, and understanding manufacturing methods.
- U.S. citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
- M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with engineering standard work and Class I/II EC processes.
- Proficiency with fault tree analysis tools.
- Experience in FEA and classical analysis methods.
- Proficiency with Teamcenter and NX.
- Active government security clearance.
- Competitive salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
