Job Description
The Scrum Master has the primary responsibility of facilitating the formation, learning and growth of multiple cross‑functional delivery teams in developing a Lean/Agile mindset, adopting, and continuously improving practices in their context, and guiding teams and leaders to enable the effective flow of delivery across the end‑to‑end value stream. As a servant‑leader, the Senior Scrum Master plays a key role in planning, facilitation, supporting teams, removing impediments, providing team coaching and mentorship, visualizing the Lean value stream to optimize for flow, and working with other Lean/Agile practitioners to exchange learnings at scale.
PrimaryResponsibilities and Essential Functions
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand‑ups, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives, ensuring active participation and collaboration among team members
- Foster a collaborative and self‑organizing team environment, encouraging open communication and transparency
- Work closely with product owners, stakeholders, and cross‑functional teams to prioritize backlog items and ensure alignment with project goals and priorities
- Guide and coach the team on Agile and Scrum practices to ensure successful project delivery
- Identify and remove impediments that hinder the team’s progress, enabling the team to remain focused on delivering high‑quality products
- Proactively address issues, conflicts, and bottlenecks, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow
- Drive continuous improvement within the team by identifying opportunities for process enhancement and efficiency
- Encourage the team to reflect on their processes and outcomes, facilitating discussions on lessons learned and implementing improvements
- Monitor key Agile metrics and report on the team’s progress, velocity, and other relevant KPIs to stakeholders
- Use data‑driven insights to identify trends, potential risks, and areas for improvement
- Provide training, mentorship, and support to team members on Agile principles and Scrum practices
- Act as a servant‑leader, guiding the team to become self‑sufficient and empowered to make decisions
- Bachelor’s in computer science or closely related field and 4 years of related experience; master’s with 2 years experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work‑related experience
- 4 years experience applying both the Scrum Framework and Kanban Method in growing high‑performing teams as a full‑time practitioner
- Experience as a Scrum Master and/or Kanban Coach at an organization that is committed to Lean‑Agile as its core approach for delivering business value
- Experience working with teams applying test automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery capabilities to achieve delivery speed and operational stability
- Experience using Lean/Agile collaboration tools like Rally, Version One, Jira
- Experience influencing positive and impactful change in organizations working towards Lean/Agile adoption, learning, and growth
- Experience and core values are top selection criteria; however, certifications help represent one’s desire to build knowledge. Some certifications to consider include Lean Kanban University’s TKP, Scrum.org’s PSM, Scrum Alliance’s CSM/A‑CSM, CSP‑SM, SAFe Agilist (SA), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM)
- Willing and able to provide and receive constructive feedback and advice with a growth mindset
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly in virtual video and remote environments using tools such as Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom, MURAL, Trello, or other collaboration tools
- Manages time extremely well, can quickly sense when an issue needs to be discussed or triaged
- Experience influencing positive and impactful change in organizations working towards Lean/Agile adoption, learning, and growth
- Experience and core values are top selection criteria; however, certifications help represent one’s desire to build knowledge. Some certifications to consider include Lean Kanban University’s TKP, Scrum.org’s PSM, Scrum Alliance’s CSM/A‑CSM, CSP‑SM, SAFe Agilist (SA), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM)
