Emotional Support Classroom Teacher

Under direction of the Building Principal, the Licensed Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.

Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.

  • Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
  • Provides support for students with emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Plans accommodations and develops instruction to support individual education plans.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers, clinicians, and behavior interventionist to foster a positive learning environment
  • Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive, collaborative rapport and communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities by communicating expectations of appropriate behavior.
  • Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
  • Plans and uses classroom time effectively.
  • Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures to uphold school regulations.
  • Integrates technology in instruction.
  • Communicates curriculum and student related information effectively in oral and written form.
  • Implements de-escalation strategies and manages classroom behavior using safety care training strategies.

Below are the qualifications for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Hold or eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area
  • Special Education Certification Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications, excellent human relations skills

The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
