Climate Change Project Specialist

Introduction

Climate change is a huge, complicated issue. In tackling a challenge of this scale, Delaware is taking action across state agencies to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, and to fortify the state against the impacts we already have begun to experience.

This position works on a broad range of climate change mitigation and adaptation projects in DNREC’s Climate and Sustainability Section. Projects may include supporting implementation of the 2025 Delaware Climate Action Plan, creating a public-facing dashboard for reporting implementation progress, climate change policy research and development, participation in outreach and education initiatives, and development of resources to support local government sustainability & resilience plans.

Assignments will also include work on policies and programs focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving community resiliency through climate change adaptation. The candidate will support programs and initiatives that support the strategies outlined in the Delaware Climate Action Plan, as well as other greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies. The Climate Change Policy Specialist will also provide research and technical analysis to support building electrification, environmental justice, and public health considerations in Delaware’s response to the global climate change crisis.

Candidates with proficiency in GIS software including ESRI products (ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online) and/or Microsoft Power BI Data Visualization software are strongly desired.

• Research and analyze policies, data and information.
• Evaluate costs, benefits, and consequences of environmental and transportation policies.
• Develop forms, spreadsheets, records and reports to document progress of adaptation recommendations.
• Coordinate between agencies for meetings, site visits and data needs.
• Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Six months experience in conducting research.
• Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
• Knowledge of climate change, environmental, and/or clean transportation policies.
• Knowledge of interpreting rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
