This position provides statewide individualized information, assessment and instruction to individuals who are blind and visually impaired as a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (VRT). VRTs serve in a variety of roles, teaching a variety of tasks to people with individual needs. Services are provided through customized 1:1 instruction, in real-life settings, as participants learn daily living techniques that are adapted to their vision needs.

Training includes (but is not limited to) a variety of daily self-care skills such as communication skills, Braille, personal resource management, meal preparation, kitchen safety, currency identification, organization, time management, and management of secondary disabilities. Low Vision services are also performed by VRTs to help individuals utilize their remaining functional vision. The VRT applies a person-centered approach to develop sustainable independence and maximize the participants’ ability to live independently within their homes and communities while aging in place.

This position may require occasional nights and weekends to serve participants and operational needs.

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements. Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

Applicant must have a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) certificate from the Academy of Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP). CVRT’s engage in the most comprehensive approach to vision rehabilitation addressing visual, physical, cognitive, social, safety and emotional concerns through training.
