BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Technical Specialist 1 - Compression, Technical Specialist 2 - Compression or Sr. Technical Specialist
- Compression located at our Myersville Station in Middletown, MD. This position will also support areas in Leesburg, VA, Catlett, VA and Chambersburg, PA.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise to support the planning, design, execution, and operational support of Compression Services capital projects and fleet reliability initiatives.
  • Perform compression calculations, pump and heat exchanger sizing, engine mapping, equipment specification development, design reviews, root cause analyses (RCA), and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical distribution, protection, and control systems, including the replacement, configuration, and testing of components.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing of substation equipment, including power factor, turns ratio, insulation resistance (megger), and other analytical tests necessary to ensure reliable system operation.
  • Operate station and substation equipment, including electrical switching and grounding activities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to manage relay settings, passwords, Management of Change (MOC) processes, and system modifications.
  • Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot solid-state and microprocessor-based relays, metering systems, sequential event recorders, digital fault recorders, and SCADA control systems.
  • Maintain and calibrate associated station equipment, including generators, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), circuit breakers, AC inverters, DC chargers, batteries, HVAC systems, and instrumentation.
  • Recommend, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs, software, and systems to improve equipment reliability.
  • Perform site inspections, equipment walk‑downs, and maintain accurate drawings, records, and configuration control documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations, including NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E, Company safety policies, and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to technicians, operators, and less experienced personnel.
  • Support emergency response efforts, including working independently or extended hours as operational conditions require.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and other company assets.
  • Apply knowledge of synchronous motor systems to support operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in power generation, natural gas processing, petrochemical, or large industrial plant environments.
  • Experience working with GE, SEL, and Beckwith relays.
  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment, relay software, and relay test equipment.
  • Knowledge of SCADA and remote‑control systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Deep understanding of plant electrical power generation and distribution systems, and plant utilities (air, water, gas, etc.).
  • Applied knowledge of protective and network relaying, electrical and control systems, including transformers, switch gear, MCCs, VFDs, lighting, HVAC, AC/DC systems, batteries, and control panels.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, industrial electrical hazards, and safety requirements for rotating equipment, arc flash, and confined spaces.
  • Strong analytical, deductive reasoning, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Maximo or similar maintenance management systems.
