Under the direction of CAT instructors and program leadership, provides instructional and student support services to students enrolled in the Center for Adult Transition (CAT). Assists instructors in implementing classroom, campus, vocational, and community-based learning activities designed to support student development in academic, career readiness, independent living, self-advocacy, and social skills. Encourages student independence while providing guidance, reinforcement, and support necessary for successful participation in program activities.
- Assist instructors in implementing classroom, campus-based, and community-based learning activities.
- Provide individualized and small-group support to students during instructional activities as directed by instructors.
- Reinforce instructional concepts, assignments, and learning objectives established by instructors.
- Support students in developing independence, self-advocacy, problem-solving, communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
- Assist students with classroom assignments, program activities, and daily routines while promoting independent participation.
- Support vocational training, career readiness, independent living, and life-skills activities.
- Assist instructors with preparation, organisation, and maintenance of instructional materials, equipment, and learning environments.
- Accompany and support students during campus activities, community-based instruction, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities.
- Observe and document student participation, attendance, and progress and communicate relevant information to instructors and program staff.
- Assist students in the use of instructional technology, assistive technology, and program resources as appropriate.
- Foster a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to College policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Human Services, Rehabilitation Services, Social Work, or a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with neurodiverse individuals and/or individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Experience supporting students or adults in post-secondary education, transition programs, workforce development, supported employment, or independent living programs preferred.
- Experience providing instructional support, coaching, mentoring, or skill reinforcement in structured learning environments preferred.
- Commitment to person-centred practices and strategies that promote independence, self-determination, and inclusion.
- Ability to work effectively with neurodiverse young adults and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Ability to support instructors in classroom, vocational, campus-based, and community-based learning environments.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, and community partners.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and educational technology platforms.
- Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities.
- Hours vary based on the Center for Adult Transition class schedule.
$22.74/hr
