Job Summary
The Sr. Specialist, EHS Manufacturing position supports all elements of the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs within the assigned scope. Acts as the lead EHS technical expert and advocate for continuous improvement of EHS performance, promoting a safe, productive, sustainable, and environmentally sound work culture through continuous improvement, best practices, and personal accountability.
What will you do (Responsibilities)- Develop site‑specific objectives aligned to the global EHS strategy, and short‑term action plans, projects, initiatives, goals, and objectives.
- Meet all regulatory obligations while balancing priorities around corporate objectives, business demand, operating needs, capital planning, and budget.
- Utilize corporate EHS software systems to support compliance activities and track/report EHS performance metrics and trends.
- Monitor emerging federal and state regulations and communicate the impact to current activities at each site.
- Facilitate both regulatory inspections and corporate‑sponsored audits.
- Develop and manage compliance programs to resolve all findings, recommendations, and non‑compliances.
- Work closely with HR and Operations teams to manage employee work‑related illnesses and injuries and return‑to‑work programs.
- Collaborate with Operations, Sustainability, and Quality to develop, implement, maintain, and certify each site’s Responsible Care EHS Management system.
- Deploy the Quaker Houghton EHS training program to satisfy regulatory and corporate requirements and improve workforce hazard recognition and EHS competence.
- Provide EHS oversight for capital improvement projects, serving as SME and authority for new projects, products, and process introductions.
- Coordinate with Process Safety/Operations/Engineering personnel to implement an effective process safety program, including PHA, mechanical integrity, and MOC processes.
- Support colleagues performing work at customer locations to ensure compliance with company and customer EHS policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with customer representatives and external stakeholders to manage EHS compliance objectives for field service operations.
- Travel associated with this position is 25–30%.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the environmental, health and safety discipline with a strong focus on safety.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, or a related science field.
- Advanced certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), NEBOSH, etc. desired but not required.
- Specific knowledge and expertise in EPA, OSHA, and applicable state agencies; ISO
14001/45001 or ACC Responsible Care; hazardous materials transportation; emergency response and crisis communications; best practices related to unsafe acts and at‑risk behaviors; incident investigation, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action management; OSHA Process Safety Management; recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (NFPA, ASME, API, ANSI, ISA).
