Environmental Engineer
What You Will Do
- Ensure safe operations and promote compliance with safety guidelines
- Support emergency response planning for system failures or environmental events.
- Evaluate environmental risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Design, evaluate, and improve wastewater treatment systems, equipment, and processes.
- Support planning and implementation of capital improvement projects for wastewater facilities.
- Conduct process analyses to improve treatment efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for treatment processes.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor and improve on wastewater technician testing and training programs.
- Ensure all operations comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, NPDES).
- Prepare regulatory reports, permit applications, and technical documentation.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments and support audits or inspections.
- Lead and manage wastewater engineering projects from concept through construction.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, municipal officials, and internal departments.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements.
- Analyze laboratory and operational data to assess treatment performance.
- Maintain accurate records of plant operations, equipment performance, and maintenance.
- Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes required.
- Understanding of environmental regulations (EPA, Clean Water Act, NPDES)
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, etc.
- Prior supervisory/management experience within a union environment helpful.
