Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Environmental Compliance
General Description
This position is responsible for EHS oversight to ensure the department complies with relevant laws and regulations regarding safety, health, and environmental protection. The role includes implementation of projects, schedules, contracts, and compliance programs to ensure the NYC sites (Astoria, Gowanus, and Narrows) are in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and corporate policies, goals, targets, and programs.
Responsibilities- Manage the EHS department
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations including USEPA, USCG, NYSDEC, OSHA, NYC DEP, and FDNY
- Undertake activities to verify and improve environmental and safety compliance
- Prepare regulatory filings, reports, and submittals
- Manage capital and O&M projects
- Interface directly with all federal, state, and local regulatory entities
- Work with members of other internal teams and external parties on ongoing matters and projects as needed
- Perform emergency response activities as required, including oil/chemical spill response
- Oversee site safety program
A four‑year engineering degree and demonstrated experience in project management, environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance, and safety program management are required. A minimum of five years of relevant experience is also required. The candidate must have knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, such as CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, and OPA
90, and possess good project management and communication skills.
- Work overtime and extended hours, including emergency calls during off‑hours
- Ability to deal with complex environmental issues
- Self‑starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently
- Comfortable working in various settings, including office, laboratory, outdoors in all seasons and elements, and a boiler room
- Capacity to sit, stand, walk for long periods, climb, work at heights, and carry loads up to 50 lbs
- Out‑of‑area and overnight travel at company expense via air, road, and rail for required training
- Pass respirator physical/fit test and possess a valid driver’s license
- Obtain New York City Fire Department Certificates of Fitness

Compensation$160 K – $180 K + 25 % bonus
