OverviewThey collaborate with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients.
Responsibilities- Check vital signs, such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing.
- Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
- Collect samples like urine.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.

Vitals
As an ER Technician, the ER TECH/HUC works under the direction of RN/LPN as part of the health care team to assist with patient care activities. The tasks delegated are those that are in accordance with the Ohio Board of Nursing set by Miami Valley Hospital.
As a HUC, the ER TECH/HUC coordinates the day to day clerical activities of the nursing unit. The HUC directly/indirectly impacts the patient outcomes and care provided to patients/families/significant others.
EducationYou’ll need a high school diploma or GED.
TrainingBefore you start, you’ll need to get a BLS CPR certificate
. They can teach you how to do CPR at your orientation, too, so you don’t need to do it beforehand.
- Finished EMT, STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
- Helped care for patients in the past 5 years.
- Are in nursing school and have finished one clinical rotation.
- You can handle doing many things simultaneously, even when people interrupt you, and still be nice.
- You know how to use a computer.
- You’re good at organizing things.
- You can talk and listen well to others.
- Bonus points:
You’ve worked in a hospital before.
