DescriptionA Patient Care Technician (PCT) works closely with nurses and doctors to provide direct care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit. The PCT performs a variety of duties to help patients recover and maintain their health.
- Check vital signs such as temperature, heart rate, and breathing.
- Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and feeding.
- Collect samples (e.g., urine) for laboratory testing.
- Report changes in a patient’s condition promptly to nursing staff.
- Support patients during walks, hygiene activities, and weighing.
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the PCT ensures all tasks are performed safely and accurately. The role may also include documentation duties that support efficient hospital operations.
EducationHigh school diploma or GED.
TrainingBasic Life Support (BLS) with CPR certification is required. Training will be provided during orientation if not already obtained.
ExperiencePrevious experience is not required, but applicants should meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a formal program such as STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant.
- Hands‑on patient care experience within the past five years (e.g., temperature checks, bathing, restroom assistance).
- Current enrollment in a nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Computer proficiency.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Excellent verbal communication and listening skills.
- Hospital experience is a bonus.
