Job Overview

As a member of the BCP Middletown Maintenance Team, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing the production equipment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the technician will develop and implement the maintenance programs necessary to ensure the short‑term and long‑term reliability of the equipment, optimize maintenance costs, maximize equipment availability and reduce unsafe conditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, hydraulic and/or pneumatic components in manufacturing equipment.
  • Plan, implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs on engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, hydraulics, conveyor systems and production machines to improve reliability.
  • Perform routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance.
  • Study equipment manuals to develop audit items and preventive‑maintenance schedules.
  • Perform basic welding duties, fabricate fixtures, jigs, guarding, etc. as needed.
  • Install or assist in the installation of new equipment, including proper layout and alignment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance checks and inspections as required and on time.
  • Evaluate equipment malfunctions with a sense of urgency to minimize downtime.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
  • Modify equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
  • Perform tasks in a quality fashion by meeting or exceeding internal customers’ requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with plant personnel regarding repair steps taken, parts ordered, and estimated time to complete repairs or projects.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping expectations for work area, equipment, and tools.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED. Technical degree or certifications preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial maintenance position.
  • Mechanical capability to repair and/or analyze production equipment.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment, overhead crane and rigging principles.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints, manuals and assembly directions.
  • Proficient communication skills, especially explaining complex mechanical issues.
  • Physical stamina for climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and bending for extended periods.
  • Reliability, dependability and self‑motivation.
  • Language skills to read and comprehend documents and communicate effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
  • Mathematical skills for addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and basic statistics.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense to perform work instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables.
  • Practical knowledge of power hand tools, forklift operation, meeting deadlines, teamwork and a diversified workforce.
Physical Demands
  • Regular talking or hearing.
  • Frequent walking and standing, sitting, bending, stooping, using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, reaching, lifting, climbing and balancing.
  • Specific vision abilities: close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
  • May require entry into areas near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme cold or heat.
  • Moderate noise level; hearing protection often required.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when accessing certain manufacturing areas.
