Product Development Technician
The Product Development Technician creates detailed 3D models and technical drawings that transform engineering concepts into accurate, production-ready documentation. This role supports design reviews, maintains precise and up-to-date documentation, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with drafting standards throughout the product development process.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings using PTC Creo to convert engineering concepts into production-ready documentation.
- Prepare, revise, and maintain drawings, models, and other drafting documents to support product development activities.
- Review and edit technical documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in language, formatting, and content.
- Develop and maintain document control using standard processes, including version control and document distribution.
- Maintain and update existing design documentation to reflect design changes and ensure alignment with current standards.
- Support design reviews by preparing clear visuals, drawings, and supporting documentation that communicate design intent.
- Collaborate and interface with project personnel in a multi-disciplinary team environment to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to design planning and decision-making.
- Apply knowledge of drafting standards, mathematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure high-quality technical documentation.
- Use Microsoft Office and document management tools to organize, track, and report on design and documentation activities.
- Prioritize tasks effectively, manage time, and meet project deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Identify and help resolve problems in design documentation and processes by applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience as a design drafter or in a similar technical drafting or product development role.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software, specifically PTC Creo.
- Strong knowledge of drafting standards and applied mathematics relevant to technical drawing and design.
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to apply it to drawings and models.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and engineering processes and how they influence design and documentation.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office and document management software for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of drafting and documentation.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design and documentation issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience supporting design reviews by preparing technical visuals and documentation.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team environment.
- Comfort working with standard document control practices, including version control and controlled document distribution.
- Interest in continuous improvement of drafting practices and documentation processes.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional, technical office or engineering environment that focuses on product design and development. You will work extensively with PTC Creo and other 3D CAD tools, as well as Microsoft Office and document management software, using a computer for most of the workday. The position involves regular collaboration with engineers and other project personnel in meetings and design reviews, while also requiring independent, focused work on detailed models and drawings.
