Overview
This intermediate-level role contributes to the design and development of mechanical systems and components, requiring the ability to effectively leverage CAD tools, collaborate within and across departments, and demonstrate a strong understanding of manufacturing principles. The role supports both new product development and continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to innovation and operational excellence. The Designer II level represents the second level within the Designer career path.
Responsibilities- Provides CAD and technical support for existing product designs and variants
- Contributes to cross-functional projects, including collaborating on new product development requests
- Identifies and integrates second-source or replacement mechanical components
- Updates and maintains technical data in ERP and PLM systems
- Performs root cause analyses and generates technical reports
- Interfaces with customers to gather and fulfill product requirements
- Coordinates with approved vendors, Strategic Purchasing, and Production for pricing and lead-time information
- Assists senior personnel and managers in interpreting QA inspection data
- Responds to manufacturing inquiries and provides technical guidance
- Supports manufacturing in developing new processes and techniques
- Creates and maintains 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using Autodesk Inventor
- Supports team-level compliance with DFMA principles and industry standards
- Contributes to process improvements
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager
- Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
- 2 – 5 years of relevant experience preferred, including mechanical design experience
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and ERP systems
- Strong understanding of DFMA principles and design optimization
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical integration
- Demonstrated ability to skillfully work with 3D solid modeling and 2D drawing creation
- Knowledge of BOM management and ERP integration
- Experience in performing mechanical calculations and FEA analysis
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and industry standards
- Experience in Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Demonstrated electrical knowledge
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to travel by air
- Occasional overseas travel for extended periods required
- Occasional domestic travel required
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Regular and on-time attendance
- This is a hybrid position requiring at least three days in the office, unless otherwise specified
