Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear Power Design (3MI)
Job Description
This role focuses on delivering high‑quality mechanical engineering solutions for nuclear power plant projects by analyzing complex problems, developing robust designs, and overseeing the full lifecycle of engineering assignments. You will evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems, provide expert advice on design and construction methods, and ensure that all work meets applicable codes, standards, and nuclear quality requirements. The position requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and station customers to solve challenging technical issues and support safe, reliable, and sustainable energy generation.
Responsibilities
+ Analyze complex engineering problems and organize, plan, and control all elements of mechanical engineering projects from concept through completion.
+ Provide expert advice on mechanical design processes and construction methods for nuclear power plant systems and components.
+ Formulate, lead, and direct investigations, prototype development, model studies, and system studies, and interpret technical data to recommend practical applications and solutions.
+ Review and validate complex engineering calculations, design deliverables, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
+ Analyze and establish performance specifications for mechanical components, equipment, systems, and processes used in nuclear power plants.
+ Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products using principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials science.
+ Support and lead the design of mechanical systems for nuclear power plants, including modifications and upgrades at nuclear sites.
+ Collaborate closely with team members and other disciplines to determine project priorities, align deliverables, and understand implications of design decisions on the work of others.
+ Develop effective engineering solutions and define clear, appropriate deliverables that address client issues and meet project requirements.
+ Approve or provide input on work schedules, and make recommendations for additional resources, specialized tools, or equipment needed to meet project objectives.
+ Apply working knowledge of nuclear industry codes, standards, regulations, and quality assurance requirements to all design activities.
+ Implement and support client Engineering Change Control processes for nuclear power generation utilities.
+ Communicate clearly with station customers and stakeholders, building trust through timely updates, technical clarity, and professional conduct.
+ Manage time effectively across multiple assignments, ensuring that project milestones, quality expectations, and safety requirements are consistently met.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, or a closely related mechanical engineering field.
+ At least 4 years of relevant mechanical engineering work experience, including a minimum of 3 years performing mechanical modifications on a nuclear site.
+ Demonstrated experience supporting the design of nuclear power plants or nuclear power plant systems.
+ Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to mechanical engineering design for nuclear power plants.
+ Working knowledge of Nuclear Quality Assurance Standards and their application to design and documentation.
+ Familiarity with client Engineering Change Control processes used by nuclear power generation utilities.
+ Strong mechanical design skills, including the ability to perform and review complex engineering calculations and design deliverables.
+ Ability to apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials to evaluate systems and components.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical documents and interacting with clients and colleagues.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with station customers and multidisciplinary teams.
+ Good time management skills with…
