Position Overview The MCOZ Camp Teacher Assistant ensures the effective delivery of structured summer learning and enrichment programming for school-age youth by maintaining a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment. The role contributes to student development outcomes by reinforcing instructional activities, promoting positive behavior, and ensuring consistent supervision during all program components including transitions, meals, and outdoor activities. This position supports program continuity by adapting to classroom needs and maintaining high standards of student care, safety, and engagement.
Schedule: July 6 - July 31, 2026
Hours:
11:00 - 4:15 Mon-Thurs, 7:45-4:15 Friday. Total of 29 hours per week.
Primary Responsibilities (≈50%)
- Ensures consistent implementation of daily learning and experiential activities by reinforcing lesson plans developed by the Camp Lead Teacher and maintaining active student engagement throughout program hours.
- Promotes a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom culture by applying effective behavior management techniques and ensuring adherence to program expectations and safety protocols.
- Delivers individualized student support to meet diverse developmental, behavioral, and learning needs, ensuring all participants are able to fully engage in program activities.
- Maintains continuous supervision and accountability for assigned student groups across instructional periods, transitions, and enrichment activities to ensure student safety and program integrity.
Core Responsibilities (≈35%)
- Manages student transitions, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess, ensuring orderly movement, accurate attendance tracking, and adherence to established procedures.
- Coordinates classroom setup and readiness by organizing materials, maintaining clean and functional learning spaces, and preparing for daily program delivery.
- Monitors student behavior and engagement during all program components, addressing issues promptly and escalating concerns to the Camp Lead Teacher when necessary.
- Adapts to changing program needs by rotating between classrooms or supporting multiple groups as required to maintain staffing coverage and student supervision.
Additional Responsibilities (≈15%)
- Contributes to effective team operations by maintaining clear and timely communication with the Camp Lead Teacher and program staff regarding student needs, incidents, and program flow.
- Supports compliance with organizational and program standards, including safety procedures, incident reporting, and youth supervision requirements.
- Participates in team meetings, program preparation, and daily debriefs to ensure alignment and continuous improvement of camp operations.
Qualifications
Required Credentials & Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with school-age youth in a school, camp, or childcare setting.
- Proven ability to maintain safety, structure, and engagement in group youth environments.
- Availability to work the full camp schedule (July 6 – July 31, 2026).
