Position Summary The Pre-Engineering & Technology Teacher is responsible for delivering an engaging, standards-based STEM curriculum that prepares students for future success in engineering, technology, computer science, and related career pathways. The teacher will create authentic, project-based learning experiences that integrate engineering design, robotics, computer science, and technology while fostering creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. The successful candidate will support an inclusive learning environment where all students have access to rigorous, hands-on STEM experiences and will collaborate with colleagues to promote interdisciplinary learning and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities The Pre-Engineering & Technology Teacher will:

• Design and deliver engaging STEM instruction aligned with Rhode Island K–12 Standards and district curriculum.
• Develop and implement project-based, hands-on learning experiences that integrate engineering, technology, mathematics, and science.
• Teach foundational concepts in:
  Engineering design and the engineering design process, Computer science and programming, Robotics and automation, Technology systems and emerging technologies.
• Guide students through the design, construction, testing, and evaluation of engineering projects such as bridges, catapults, Rube Goldberg machines, robotics systems, and other design challenges.
• Incorporate technology integration and authentic performance assessments into daily instruction.
• Foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking through real-world problem solving.
• Utilize instructional technology to enhance teaching and student learning.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners in an inclusive classroom environment.
• Support and participate in co-teaching models, when applicable.
• Collaborate with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve instructional practices and student achievement.
• Participate in ongoing professional learning related to STEM education, engineering, computer science, and instructional best practices.
• Maintain effective communication with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
• Support district and school improvement initiatives and educational reform efforts.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging laboratory/classroom environment.

All educators hired by Middletown Public Schools must provide Certification of demonstrated Proficiency or Awareness in Science of Reading and Structured Literacy, appropriate to the work assignment.

Preferred Programs & Experience Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and/or experience in:

• Engineering design and problem-solving
• Computer science and programming
• Robotics platforms and automation
• CAD, design thinking, and prototyping
• Technology integration
• Project-Based Learning (PBL)
• Applied STEM instruction
• Authentic and performance-based assessment
• Designing learning experiences that develop 21st Century Skills
• Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum (or willingness to complete PLTW training)

Minimum Qualifications Valid Rhode Island teaching certification in one or more of the following areas:

• Technology Education
• Computer Science
• Mathematics
• Science
• Middle School endorsement in Mathematics and/or Science preferred (if applicable).

Relevant education, certifications, and successful teaching experience. Knowledge of Rhode Island curriculum standards, grade-level expectations, and assessment practices. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology effectively into teaching and learning. Experience teaching STEM-related content and implementing project-based learning. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators. Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of all students.

Preferred Qualifications Project Lead The Way (PLTW) certification or willingness to obtain certification. Experience with robotics, coding, engineering, makerspaces, or fabrication technologies. Experience integrating STEM disciplines into interdisciplinary, project-based instruction. Experience working in collaborative teaching or co-teaching environments.
