Electrical Engineer

Serco is seeking experienced Electrical Engineers to join the Autonomous Maritime Systems Test Center (AMSTC) team in Newport, RI. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) systems for critical military programs. This role supports both internal R&D efforts and external stakeholders, with a focus on system integration, product documentation, and troubleshooting pre and post-test sea testing.

This position requires the ability to work in a controlled and compliance-driven environment while supporting mission-critical capabilities. Serco supports the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), including support for the design, acquisition, testing and sustainment of naval undersea warfare systems. You will be part of a team working closely with the customer to deliver engineering support required to conduct system upgrades, maintenance, and sustainment in support of autonomous underwater vehicles.

Serco has been supporting the Naval Sea Systems Command for over 50 years and has been recognized by the Navy for their outstanding contributions. This position is contingent upon the ability to maintain/transfer a DoD Secret Security Clearance In this role, you will:

  • Design and develop electrical systems and PCB layouts using OrCAD (or equivalent tools such as Altium).
  • Create and deliver Gerber files, BOMs, drawings, and other documentation to support PCB manufacturing.
  • Contribute to UUV prototyping efforts by producing multiple PCB designs.
  • Integrate and test systems including acoustic sensors, communications, antenna systems, optical/magnetic sensors, sonar, arrays, propulsion, and power systems.
  • Support at-sea test and evaluation (T&E) activities with up to 10% travel (domestic and international).
  • Perform analysis and design work involving integrated circuits, power supply design, FPGAs, and microcontrollers.
  • Prepare high-quality technical documentation including specifications, test plans, reports, and white papers.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot, test, and refine electrical systems.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5 years of professional experience in electrical/electronic design.
  • Proficiency with OrCAD or similar PCB design tools (Altium preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with PCB development and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of integrated circuits, power systems, FPGAs, and microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge of IEEE or equivalent engineering standards is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, technical writing ability, and a collaborative mindset.
  • The ability to travel up to 10% (CONUS).

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience with modeling and simulation environments or autonomy systems
  • Experience supporting projects in classified or regulated environments
  • Background in robotics, unmanned systems, or naval/defense applications
