Licensed Optician - Part Time

Job Summary

Responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical products to adults and children, working with prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. Advises and assists patients on lenses and frames.

• Verify order data entry and compare Rx to the original prescription.
• Complete proper order filing procedures and file orders under the correct ABC system.
• Deliver sales by providing excellent member service in person and over the phone.
• Explain in detail all procedures included under the exam fee, maintaining a friendly and pleasant demeanor.
• Take measurements, ensure correct frame selection for Rx power, read prescriptions on the lensometer, and notify product readiness.
• Advance orders in the system, handle all money‑related transactions, and ensure accurate payments at the point of service.
• Strive to meet sales and metric goals by educating patients on available products and recommending those that improve visual needs.
• Engage members in front of the optical department during downtime.
• Adhere to privacy and proprietary company policies and procedures (HIPAA).
• Assist the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of shifts.
• Maintain club policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
• Maintain a full and predictable attendance record.

• Licensed optician within the state with an active license.
• Knowledge of optical products and business practices preferred.
• High school diploma or college degree preferred; experience in big‑box retail or optical preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Open shift availability required for full‑time positions.
• Minimum age 18 years.

Most of the time is spent moving frequently on hard surfaces, occasionally bending, pulling, reaching, or stooping. Frequently requires lifting objects up to 20 pounds, with occasional lifting of heavier objects with assistance. Work environment includes exposure to temperature extremes, loud noises, and cleaning agents. Optical hand tools are used for adjustments and repairs.

Pay range: $28.00 – $34.25 per hour.
