Field Service Technician

As an Field Service Technician, you will be a member of a team to support the Undersea Warfare (USW) Electromagnetic Systems Department (Code 34) of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) in support of Communication Systems and Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare (EMW) programs. In this role, you will:

  • Utilize general test equipment and tools and special purpose equipment to mate/unmate the SubHDR Mast Equipment Group (MEG) from the Antenna Pedestal Group (APG) to perform specific tests of the components of the SubHDR to support over the air (OTA) testing to complete the ready for issue (RFI) process.
  • Utilize general test equipment and tools and special purpose equipment to test the APG after separation and prior to installation when it returns from repair.
  • Utilize general test equipment and special purpose equipment to perform troubleshooting, test equipment set up and operation, repair, and configuration management for the SubHDR MEG.
  • Key crew member of crane party for moving SUBHDR Mast to and from a raised platform.
  • Be involved in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintaining of a variety of products and equipment
  • Identify, analyze, and repair product failures and order and replace parts as needed
  • Determine and recommend which products or services best fit the customers' needs
  • Perform and coordinate all work efforts in accordance with applicable health, safety, technical and QA requirements.
  • Responsible for proper shipping and receiving of SUBHDR mast and material.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 2 years of experience in related field
  • An active DoD Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret Security Clearance
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a CAC (Common Access Card)
  • The ability to successfully pass a drug/background screening
  • The ability to successfully pass DOT Physical
  • Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Technical knowledge of SATCOM and SESIF SATCOM Equipment which includes FOT, NMT, TDMA Interface Processor (TIP), SHF EBEM is preferred
  • General knowledge of proper use of hand tools
  • Knowledge of general test equipment, special purpose equipment, mast, and system types to perform troubleshooting, test equipment set up and operation, repair, and configuration management for overall program level support
  • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • The ability to analyze, troubleshoot and repair systems, preferably SATCOM systems, as an individual and in team situations
  • The ability to assess and respond to situations where standard procedures have failed in isolating or fixing problem equipment
  • The ability to promptly respond to telephone and email requests for technical support
  • The ability to travel up to 10% as necessary

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • RF experience preferred
  • Forklift operation experience
  • Crane operation experience
