Pre-K Auxiliary Teacher

Report to: Pre-K Lead Teacher/Principal and/or Pre-K Program Director
Supervises: Assigned students
Job Goals: The Pre-K Auxiliary Teacher assists the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and engaging classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, physical, and academic growth of pre-kindergarten students.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.Child Development Associate credential, or at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential through Council of Professional Recognition; from a regionally accredited institution. Alabama First Class Pre-K lists these as minimum auxiliary teacher requirements.Experience working with young children preferred.Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and staff.Ability to follow written and verbal directions.Must meet all background clearance, fingerprinting, and employment requirements established by the school system and state regulations.Must be willing to participate in required professional development and training.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom instruction, activities, routines, and transitions.Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate lessons and learning centers.Work with individual students and small groups under the direction of the Lead Teacher.Help prepare instructional materials, classroom displays, supplies, and learning activities.Assist with supervision of students during arrival, dismissal, meals, restroom breaks, recess, field trips, and other school activities.Promote positive student behavior using appropriate classroom management strategies.Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.Assist with student observations, documentation, portfolios, and progress monitoring as directed.Support students’ social, emotional, language, motor, and early academic development.Communicate student needs or concerns to the Lead Teacher in a timely and professional manner.Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.Follow all school system policies, Pre-K program guidelines, safety procedures, and state requirements.Attend required staff meetings, trainings, workshops, and professional development sessions.Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Principal, or Program DirectorKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Ability to work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and school staff.

- Basic technology skills for classroom and documentation support.
Physical Requirements - Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and sit on the floor with children.
- Lift or assist young children when necessary.
- Supervise children indoors and outdoors.
- Move classroom materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Respond quickly to student needs and emergency situations.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school district policies and procedures by the Principal, Program Director, and/or designated supervisor.
